How we make an impact
Business benefits and positive social impact must be mutually reinforcing. This is the core of Creating Shared Value.
We believe that Creating Shared Value enables us to optimize value for our shareholders and have a long-term positive impact on all stakeholders connected to our business.
Â
At the heart of good food is the quality of the ingredients, the people who produce them and the soils and ecosystems in which they are grown. Protecting growers and their environments ensures the long-term success of Nestlé’s business.
This requires that we know where our ingredients come from and that they are produced in a way that minimizes negative impacts and makes a positive contribution to individuals, communities and the planet.

Key challenges
Ensuring sustainable supplies of food is a global challenge that requires transformative solutions. Agriculture and supply chains face significant challenges, and overcoming them will require a concerted, multi-stakeholder effort. Issues like child labor, forced labor, climate change, water scarcity, deforestation and animal welfare are all significant challenges that cannot be tackled by Nestlé alone. They require collaborative effort and sharing of expertise to gain a deep understanding of the issues in local contexts, and develop solutions to bring about real transformation.
Â
Opportunities
By working collaboratively, Nestlé and its partners can make a positive, meaningful impact – on sustainable development, improving livelihoods, mitigating climate change, addressing global poverty and ensuring food supplies for the future. We know we cannot solve these issues on our own, so we work with governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), expert organizations, industry peers and other stakeholders to put in place effective interventions. The application of best practice agricultural techniques enables us to help farmers enhance productivity, while the deployment of new technology can help increase transparency and identify challenges and new, innovative solutions throughout our supply chain.
Â
How we’re transforming our supply chain
To transform our agricultural supply chains and make meaningful impact, we focus on the following areas:
- Transparency – ensuring visibility of where our raw materials come from and how they are produced.
- Natural capital  – protecting the environment and preserving resources.
- Human rights  – ensuring people’s rights are respected and protected.
- Animal welfare  – making sure animals in our supply chain are being treated with dignity and kept healthy.
We aim to achieve this through strong collaborations with expert partners and our agricultural suppliers, who fully understand the challenges on the ground, where changes can drive transformation. By identifying the root causes of issues, we can work with these partners to develop and implement tailored solutions and measure our progress to ensure they make the desired impact – helping to feed the world sustainably while transforming the lives of some of the most vulnerable people, and having a positive impact on the planet.
